Life Update – Moving, Home Decor, Fashion & More!

October 21, 2016

Well friends, it’s been awhile hasn’t it?! Since the last time I posted on this little blog, a LOT has changed. If you follow me on Instagram {or know me personally} then you already know – I moved to Denver, Colorado! I got a job offer, and within a few weeks I had my one bedroom apartment packed up and was saying “see ya later” to all of my favorite people. Crazy!

Moving was… stressful, so say the least. Let me start by saying that Mercury went into retrograde right when I was planning to move, and she was a real BETCH to me! Without getting into too many details, I dealt with no show movers (the WORST), scrambling to find back up movers during the busiest moving time of the year, finally finding movers and it taking THREE WEEKS for my stuff to arrive, and countless other hiccups. Needless to say, I’m glad it’s over!

So far, Denver has been absolutely fabulous. Fall is by far my favorite season, and I am constantly blown away by how beautiful the leaves, parks and greenery look right now! There is so much to do and explore, and I’ve been so lucky to have good friends who have let me tag along with them to explore the city. I mean, there’s so many breweries here how could I not love it?!

So lucky to have my bestie out in Denver to help explore the city! P.S. - SO happy with how my gallery wall came together!

My apartment has come together so well, and moving into a new place comes with picking up some new home decor items! Here are a few of the new home decor items I’ve been loving!

When it comes to fall fashion, is there anything better?! I feel like I’ve been able to score a few trendy and fabulous pieces, without racking up a huge price tag. My style in Denver has gotten a bit more trend focused, and I’ve loved exploring with adding a few new pieces to my existing wardrobe. Here are a few items I’ve either picked up or am currently lusting after!

Colorado is INSANELY dry, so I’ve really had to alter my beauty routine to adapt accordingly. I’m planning to do an entire post about some of the beauty products that have totally saved my skin and hair, and I’ll also share some of the makeup items that I’ve been obsessed with. Coming soon!

I’m still settling into life in Denver, but I’m hopeful I’ll soon create a good routine and be better able to keep up with this little blog. If there’s anything specific you’d like to see {whether it’s moving related, favorite places in Denver, tips for acclimating, fall fashion/beauty, etc.} please let me know!

Curly Hair Recipe

August 15, 2016

Thanks to Cantu for sponsoring this post.

I get questions all the time from readers about my curly hair.  Whether it’s the color, cut, style or products used, curly girls often seek out advice because curly hair is so unique!  I remember being younger and trying out the products that my straight-haired friends were using.  Almost none of them worked for my hair, and I would become so frustrated {not to mention tired of wasting money on stuff that didn’t work}.  It took me a while, but I eventually realized that I need specialized products that are made for curly hair.  An even bigger discovery?  Almost no two curl patterns are alike, so it’s essential to mix up your own “curl cocktail” for your hair!  That’s why I love Cantu products – they are perfect for mixing and matching, to create the perfect recipe for each unique curl type!

First, I start with the Complete Conditioning Co-Wash to cleanse my hair.  I am a huge fan of co-washes, because they are still hydrating and don’t strip your hair of moisture {like many other shampoos}.  After I’m out of the shower, I use the Coil Calm Detangler, which softens my hair and gets out any tangles.  I also always apply the Leave-In Conditioning Repair Cream, which helps reduce breakage, frizz and flyaways!

Now comes the fun part – your curl cocktail!  Everyone’s will be slightly different, but, essentially, I mix together products to create something that is perfect for my hair type!  For me, it’s a 50/50 mix of the Coconut Curling Cream and the Twist & Lock Gel.  The curling cream defines my curls and moisturizes, while the gel controls frizz and holds the style.  You can also layer these products for a different result, and it still looks so fabulous and makes your hair feel amazing!

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2016

July 22, 2016

It’s my very favorite sale of the whole year – the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale!  I’m sure you’ve been hearing about it all over social media, but today is the first day the sale is public!  Up until today it’s been “Early Access” only, so if you didn’t have a Nordstrom credit or debit card you weren’t able to take advantage.  Lucky for you I’ve been scouring the sale for the past two weeks, and even made a trip in to Nordstrom to check out fit, quality and sizing in person {if you know me, I rarely online shop so this is a BIG deal}.

Most major sales take the items that didn’t sell well or are going out of season, but the #NSale features brand new merchandise from the best brands on major discount!  I’ve been saving my pretty pennies for the past few months {I even have a separate “Clothing & Beauty” savings account, thanks to my gal pal Tess’ tips on multiple savings accounts}, so I was able to snag up a ton of amazing fashion and beauty items for fall.  The best part about shopping with Nordstrom is the amazing customer service – they offer free shipping on every order and their return policy is in a league of it’s own!  I’ve rounded up a few of my favorite items from the sale, including a few that I already purchased myself.  Seriously guys, there is some fabulous stuff on major sale!

Nixon Watch | Patagonia Zip-Up | NARS Perfect Cheek Palette | Lace Up Flats | Tory Burch Crossbody | Cowl Neck Sweater | bp. Plaid Scarf | Hudson Distressed Jeans | BeautyBlender Set | Steve Madden Booties | Kendra Scott Earrings | Deborah Lippman Nail Polish Set

I’ve never been willing to splurge on a Patagonia jacket, because they are just so darn spendy!  When I saw this one on sale, I knew it would be perfect to snatch up for the winter months.  Plus, who doesn’t love a quarter zip?!  Cowl neck sweaters are a fall necessity, and the fit on this one looks absolutely fabulous {plus it’s under $30}.  I also am totally drooling over these Hudson jeans – the distressing is so perfect!  When I first started browsing through the sale, these lace up flats were the first think I knew I needed to have.  How adorable?!  I can already tell I’m going to be living in these this fall!  And how cute are these booties?  I love the cut out detail – it seriously makes your legs look ten times longer!

Okay, I’m a total watch lover and I’ve been eying this Nixon beauty the entire sale.  That rose gold detail?  Obsessed!  You can absolutely never go wrong with some Tory Burch, and it rarely goes on sale.  Now is the perfect time to snatch up this wine colored crossbody {or any of the other fabulous Tory goodies}.  I’m also a huge Kendra Scott fan, and these earrings are the perfect fall colors.  I love the unique stone, and the different metal options are perfect.  Lastly, nothing screams fall like a plaid scarf.  I love that this one is huge and oversized, plus it’s under $20 which is a major steal!

Everyone knows I’m a beauty junkie, and I can’t tell you how many of these beauty items are sitting in my cart waiting for me to pull the trigger!  If there’s one thing you absolutely need to buy, it’s this BeautyBlender set.  I swear by my BeautyBlender, and in this set you get two of them PLUS the blender cleanser!  I’ve also totally been drooling over this NARS Perfect Cheek palette.  Not only do you get some of the most iconic blush shades in the beauty world, but you get their amazing Laguna bronzer and highlighter in one palette!  There are a few great nail polish sets included in the sale, but I’m loving the beautiful shades featured in the Deborah Lippman set.  It’s so stunning for fall and winter!

I’ve included a few other items I’m loving from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale in the widget below, so be sure to shop your little hearts out!  Let me know if you’d like to see any of these pieces styled, or if any other items are catching your eye.  Happy shopping!

3 Easy Ways To Give Back

July 18, 2016

When it comes to giving back to the community, it may seem like a daunting task.  With so many worthy causes and organizations, it can be difficult to know where to begin!  Whether you choose to volunteer your time, donate items or make a financial contribution, there are so many great options to give back to your community!  Today, I’m sharing three easy tips to give back within your community.

1. Donate unused items

This one may seem so simple, but it’s one of my absolute favorite ways to easily make a difference within your community.  Every season, I like to clean out my apartment and compile unused items to donate to local organizations.  Items that are often needed include clothes that you no longer wear or don’t fit properly, beauty products and makeup items, bedding and towels {animal shelters love these} and household items like cleaning products, toilet paper, etc.  Of course, you can always donate any food items that may have piled up in your pantry.  By pulling together items you may have that you aren’t using, not only are you able to donate to those who need them, but you are also clearing up your space!

2. Utilize company offerings

Many companies offer volunteer events, paid time to volunteer for approved causes or even full days where employees can spend the day giving back.  Often times employees don’t take advantage of these benefits, but it is such an easy way to volunteer with the support of your employer!  Check in with your company’s volunteer and community service events to make an impact with these organized events.  A bonus?  Get your coworkers to participate with you!  It will be a fun way to connect with them outside of the office, and you’ll all feel great about spending the day making a difference in your community.

3.  Use your talents

Do you love to read?  Volunteer to read to children at an after school program!  Are you an excellent business woman?  Work with a local organization to review resumes for those trying to enter the workforce!  Do you have an obsession with animals?  Volunteer at a local animal shelter!  There are so many incredible organizations looking for people to volunteer their time and talents.  By leveraging your strengths and talents to give back to your community, you’ll be able to enjoy your time and have fun while doing it!

Another easy way to help the community?  Jewelers Mutual Insurance Company is donating a total of $2 million as part of their Band Together campaign to support three important causes – health, home and hunger. The nonprofits benefiting are: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Habitat for Humanity, and Feeding America or Food Banks Canada.  YOU can vote to decide which cause will receive the money from July 11, 2016 at 11am CT – July 31, 2016 at 11pm CT.  The cause that receive the most votes by the end of July will receive a $1 million donation from Jewelers Mutual. The runner-up will receive $700,000 and $300,000 will go to the third-place winner.  Another bonus?  Voters will be entered for a chance to win weekly jewelry prizes from STACKED New York to receive a set of 3 stacking bands ($450 retail value)!
