3 Tips For Healthy Hair

September 8, 2015

For a long time I felt like my hair was constantly dry and brittle.  It hit a point where I realized I needed to make some big changes to make my hair happy and healthy!  After revamping my hair care routine, I’m happy to report that my hair is shiny, bouncy and {most importantly} healthy.  I’m sharing my top 3 tips for healthy hair, to ensure your hair is strong and beautiful!

1.  Diet – I always stress this when it comes to beauty, but it truly starts from within. If you are fueling your body with great nutrients, your hair, skin & nails will totally reflect that!  My biggest tips are to make sure that you are eating plenty of Omega 3’s, getting healthy proteins {salmon is amazing for skin and hair} and drinking lots and lots of water!  If you’re not getting them through your food, I would recommend taking a supplement – my favorites are these Hum vitamins with great ingredients for your hair, skin and nails.

2.  Avoid Heat – I know, I know… easier said than done, right?! Telling you to toss your hairdryers, curling irons, straighteners, etc. is totally unrealistic!  BUT, there are definitely measures you can take to make sure your hair isn’t getting torched.  If you aren’t able to let your hair air-dry every day {bonus points if you can}, get all the way ready while letting your hair air-dry so that you only have to use a blowdryer for the last 25%.  Avoid using your straightener or curling iron every day by mastering a “second day” hairstyle – topknot, braid, hat… the options are endless!

3.  Get Your Head Healthy – Obviously using hydrating oils or serums on the ends of your hair is helpful to keep your hair healthy, however a commonly missed tip is to make sure your head and scalp is healthy! I love the Clear Scalp & Hair products, because they really hydrate your scalp without leaving it greasy or residue!  Because I use so many products to tame my curly hair, it’s super important that I use a shampoo that will get rid of any product buildup.

One of the best references I’ve heard is like soil is to a tree, a well-nourished scalp is the right foundation for strong, beautiful hair.  Instead of focusing on the ends of your hair, the scalp is what can make the biggest difference.  I mean, the skin on our scalp is the same as on our face or body, so we should treat it with the same care!  I love that Clear products are formulated with vitamins B5, C & E, sunflower, almond, soybean & coconut oils, glycerin & aloe vera, so you know you’re getting great nutrients to your hair!
