With festival season right around the corner, it is one of the most exciting times for fun and unique fashion and beauty trends.  As someone who isn’t heading off to Coachella, I’m constantly browsing Instagram, Snapchat and all other social media to see what fun trends are hitting the festival scene!  Last year it was all about the flash tattoos and fishtail braids, but this year things are a bit more simple when it comes to the major festival trends.  This summer it’s all about the strong brow, natural skin and earthy tones in makeup and beauty.  I know there’s no surprise when I say that Target is my favorite place to shop for new beauty items, so I’m sharing a few of my latest finds to embrace the festival trends!

  • Earthy Shadow – I’m normally someone who totally reaches for neutral toned eyeshadows, regardless of the season. It’s hilarious looking at my eye palettes, because the neutral shadows are always the first ones gone!  With festival season upon us, I’m totally loving the earthy tones for my eyes and this NYX Go-To palette is my go-to option for a budget-friendly palette.  With a nice winged liner {like this NYX one}, you’ve got a perfect eye look that’s festival-ready!
  • Natural Skin – When it comes to face makeup, I tend to tread the line between “full coverage flawless skin” and “natural finish”. It definitely depends on the day which side I fall on, but for festival season, the trends all center around making the skin look perfect, dewy and natural.  So much of this trend is all about the skin prep, which is why I’m all about the La Roche Posay sunscreens and CC creams with SPF.  It may sound dramatic, but the biggest skin enemy when it comes to aging and wrinkles is the sun!  That’s why it’s SO critical to use a high-quality sunscreen to keep your skin protected {without the risk of breakouts}.
  • Bold Eyebrows – Lastly, one of my favorite trends this season {and the past little while} is a well-defined, bold brow. I am obsessed with the L’oreal Brow Plumper for every type of brow, since it helps fill in sparse areas and keep stray hairs in place.  For those looking for a pencil/gel duo, the Pixi Natural Brow Duo is the perfect choice for the festival heat and sweat.

For those who may not be heading off to Coachella this weekend, it’s still SO easy to embrace the festival beauty trends!  Be sure to check out Target for all of their amazing new beauty products and brands that are festival-ready.  Plus, follow along @TargetStyle for all of the fabulous #TargetStyle posts.

5 Makeup Tips For Glasses

Makeup-Glasses

I’ve been wearing glasses since like the fourth grade, and wasn’t allowed to wear makeup until middle school {and even then I was only allowed to wear clear mascara… does that even do anything?!} 😂 By the time I was wearing makeup, I was pretty religious about wearing my contacts every day.  However, a few years ago I needed to give my contacts a break and wear my glasses for a few weeks.  During that time, I quickly realized that applying makeup for glasses requires different techniques to ensure your eyes look fabulous behind your frames!  Today, I’m sharing my top 5 makeup tips for glasses so you look fabulous and feel confident while wearing your glasses!

  1. Undereye Concealer – The frames of your glasses can cast a shadow beneath the eyes, which will accentuate any dark circles and make the eyes appear sunken in.  When your eyes are behind glasses, it’s important to make them look bright and awake.  Use a brightening concealer under the eye, making sure to apply in the inner corner of the eye.  Blend with a sponge, brush or clean finger to leave the eyes looking luminous without any dark shadows.
  2. Choose Neutral Eyeshadow Shades – The last thing you want is for your eyeshadow to compete with your frames, so choose neutral eyeshadow colors that make the eyes pop.  Some flattering shades include champagne, bronze, taupe, nudes and chocolate browns.  By keeping your eyeshadow neutral, you can let your frames enhance your eyes!
  3. Curl Your Eyelashes – This is an essential step when wearing makeup with glasses!  Without curling your eyelashes, you can end up with last breakage if your eyelashes are constantly hitting the glass in your frames.  Especially with mascara, this can cause damage to your eyelashes and even get pesky mascara flakes on your lenses.  Instead, use your eyelashe curler to give your lashes lift and make your eyes look open behind your frames!
  4. Define Your Eyebrows – Just like your glasses frame your eyes, your eyebrows frame your glasses!  It’s essential to make sure your eyebrows are well groomed and fully defined to enhance the look of your glasses.  Use an eyebrow pencil or powder to fill in any sparse areas, and finish with a clear brow gel to keep the hairs in place.  By ensuring your eyebrows are looking their best, your glasses and eyes will serve as the main focus of your face!
  5. Choose The Right Frames – The most basic step in making your eye makeup look great behind glasses, is choosing the right frames for your face!  Luckily, you don’t have to try on hundreds of pairs to find your perfect pair.  VSP Direct offers eyewear consultations with their style experts, and right now you can enter their “Frame Your Fashion” sweepstakes to get a free eyewear consult and designer sunglasses!  You can enter weekly through May 25th by sharing a selfie with #VSPStyleSweepstakes, and one grand prize winner {selected from 10 weekly winners} will receive one year of VSP Direct vision insurance and a $250 gift card.

Beauty Buzzwords

February 25, 2016

Thank you to Target for sponsoring this post.

Over the last six months, I have placed a major emphasis on skincare.  Of all of the areas of my beauty routine, my skin definitely causes me the most trouble.  I have a mix of issues that flare up at different times, including hormonal acne, rosacea and hyperpigmentation.  Skincare products can be a major trial and error process – it can be so difficult to determine what products, ingredients and claims to look for.  I’ve tried to find a balance between investing in quality products for my skin, and not breaking the bank.  Luckily, Target has brought in some incredible new skincare lines that are filled with amazing ingredients at a great price!

There are so many “beauty buzzwords” these days – whether it’s Korean beauty products, sheet masks, or other prestige trends, it can be hard to know which trends are worth trying!  With all of my recent exploration in the skincare realm, I’m here to break down some of the trends to try!

Glow Products

The trend I was most excited to try was products that have a claim to increase your skin’s glow.  With my issues with hyperpigmentation, I’m always looking for products that will help even my skin tone and reduce the appearance of any dark marks.  I’ve been a longtime fan of Pixi, and have heard absolutely rave reviews about their Glow Tonic.  When I heard that Pixi released an entire line of Skintreats at Target, I knew I needed to pick up a few of them.  I decided to try the Pixi Glow Mud Cleanser, the Glowtion Day Dew and the cult favorite Glow Tonic.  Honestly, I have been blown away by this product line!  The key ingredient in this line is glycolic acid, which helps with the skin’s texture and exfoliation, to reveal a glowing skintone.  The Glow Mud Cleanser contains hyaluronic acid, aloe vera and avocado oil, which all help with your skin’s hydration and leaves it looking plump.  I love using the Glowtion Day Dew in the morning prior to putting on makeup – it is super lightweight and contains mica to give a natural-looking radiance.  I was most excited to try the infamous Glow Tonic, and it didn’t disappoint!  I love using it after cleansing, since it helps remove any excess dirt and impurities while also brightening my skin!  Overall, the Pixi Skintreats line is an A+, and there are plenty more Pixi products to explore at Target!

Cleansing Oils

It may seem strange to use an oil based product on oily skin, but cleansing oils are the best for removing every trace of makeup. They deep cleanse without drying out your skin, which helps keep your skin looking dewy and hydrated! They are especially great for those of us who practice the double cleanse. I use the Neutrogena cleansing oil to remove makeup, and cleanse a second time to remove dirt, oil and impurities! I find this is the best way to ensure your skin is truly clean!

SHOP CLEANSING OILS:

Sheet Masks

Guys… if you haven’t tried a sheet mask then you are missing out!  I tried sheet masks a while back, and I was immediately in love with the process and results that I saw from these highly potent masks.  You end up looking like something out of a horror movie, but the results are totally worth it!  Sheet masks are essentially cloth masks that are infused with a high concentration of a serum-based formula.  I love the fact that there’s virtually no mess from these masks, so there’s no product going to waste.  They definitely feel luxurious, and can have a number of different focuses for your skin.  I picked up a few of the Mizon sheet masks {they have one for calming your skin, firming and even boosting your skin’s collagen}, and fell in love with the results.  Even better?!  The are literally half the price of most department store sheet masks {while feeling just as fabulous}.  If you’re going to try any of these beauty buzzwords, definitely give sheet masks a go!

SHOP SHEET MASKS:

Ampoules

I had never heard of an ampoule until recently, and loved the inspiration from Korean skincare.  These are heavy duty, concentrated serums that are packed with tons of active ingredients that will transform your skin.  After doing some research, I learned that ampoules are not intended for everyday use, and are really more like boot camp for your skin!  They work overtime to give you skin a boost when it’s in crisis mode!  I picked up the Missha Time Revolution Night Repair Science Ampoule to give this trend a try, and I must say I was totally impressed!  All the reviews online compare this to another high-end ampoule with a price tag that’s THREE TIMES the cost of the Missha ampoule, so it’s definitely a good choice for trying out the trend without breaking the bank.

SHOP AMPOULES:

Essences

I had honestly never heard of an essence, but it sounded so fancy that I had to try it! Turns out that essences are lightweight formulas that can be applied to your entire face, and fall between a toner and a moisturizer. They enrich your skin, and are typically applied by pressing or patting into the skin. I love that it’s a bit more than a toner, but not quite as heavy duty as a moisturizer – perfect for layering at the beginning of your skincare routine! The Laniege Clear-C Advanced Effector is one of my faves that has a ton of amazing ingredients to boost your skin!
