Life Update – Moving, Home Decor, Fashion & More!

October 21, 2016

Well friends, it’s been awhile hasn’t it?! Since the last time I posted on this little blog, a LOT has changed. If you follow me on Instagram {or know me personally} then you already know – I moved to Denver, Colorado! I got a job offer, and within a few weeks I had my one bedroom apartment packed up and was saying “see ya later” to all of my favorite people. Crazy!

Moving was… stressful, so say the least. Let me start by saying that Mercury went into retrograde right when I was planning to move, and she was a real BETCH to me! Without getting into too many details, I dealt with no show movers (the WORST), scrambling to find back up movers during the busiest moving time of the year, finally finding movers and it taking THREE WEEKS for my stuff to arrive, and countless other hiccups. Needless to say, I’m glad it’s over!

So far, Denver has been absolutely fabulous. Fall is by far my favorite season, and I am constantly blown away by how beautiful the leaves, parks and greenery look right now! There is so much to do and explore, and I’ve been so lucky to have good friends who have let me tag along with them to explore the city. I mean, there’s so many breweries here how could I not love it?!

So lucky to have my bestie out in Denver to help explore the city! P.S. - SO happy with how my gallery wall came together!

My apartment has come together so well, and moving into a new place comes with picking up some new home decor items! Here are a few of the new home decor items I’ve been loving!

When it comes to fall fashion, is there anything better?! I feel like I’ve been able to score a few trendy and fabulous pieces, without racking up a huge price tag. My style in Denver has gotten a bit more trend focused, and I’ve loved exploring with adding a few new pieces to my existing wardrobe. Here are a few items I’ve either picked up or am currently lusting after!

Colorado is INSANELY dry, so I’ve really had to alter my beauty routine to adapt accordingly. I’m planning to do an entire post about some of the beauty products that have totally saved my skin and hair, and I’ll also share some of the makeup items that I’ve been obsessed with. Coming soon!

I’m still settling into life in Denver, but I’m hopeful I’ll soon create a good routine and be better able to keep up with this little blog. If there’s anything specific you’d like to see {whether it’s moving related, favorite places in Denver, tips for acclimating, fall fashion/beauty, etc.} please let me know!

3 Easy Ways To Give Back

July 18, 2016

When it comes to giving back to the community, it may seem like a daunting task.  With so many worthy causes and organizations, it can be difficult to know where to begin!  Whether you choose to volunteer your time, donate items or make a financial contribution, there are so many great options to give back to your community!  Today, I’m sharing three easy tips to give back within your community.

1. Donate unused items

This one may seem so simple, but it’s one of my absolute favorite ways to easily make a difference within your community.  Every season, I like to clean out my apartment and compile unused items to donate to local organizations.  Items that are often needed include clothes that you no longer wear or don’t fit properly, beauty products and makeup items, bedding and towels {animal shelters love these} and household items like cleaning products, toilet paper, etc.  Of course, you can always donate any food items that may have piled up in your pantry.  By pulling together items you may have that you aren’t using, not only are you able to donate to those who need them, but you are also clearing up your space!

2. Utilize company offerings

Many companies offer volunteer events, paid time to volunteer for approved causes or even full days where employees can spend the day giving back.  Often times employees don’t take advantage of these benefits, but it is such an easy way to volunteer with the support of your employer!  Check in with your company’s volunteer and community service events to make an impact with these organized events.  A bonus?  Get your coworkers to participate with you!  It will be a fun way to connect with them outside of the office, and you’ll all feel great about spending the day making a difference in your community.

3.  Use your talents

Do you love to read?  Volunteer to read to children at an after school program!  Are you an excellent business woman?  Work with a local organization to review resumes for those trying to enter the workforce!  Do you have an obsession with animals?  Volunteer at a local animal shelter!  There are so many incredible organizations looking for people to volunteer their time and talents.  By leveraging your strengths and talents to give back to your community, you’ll be able to enjoy your time and have fun while doing it!

Another easy way to help the community?  Jewelers Mutual Insurance Company is donating a total of $2 million as part of their Band Together campaign to support three important causes – health, home and hunger. The nonprofits benefiting are: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Habitat for Humanity, and Feeding America or Food Banks Canada.  YOU can vote to decide which cause will receive the money from July 11, 2016 at 11am CT – July 31, 2016 at 11pm CT.  The cause that receive the most votes by the end of July will receive a $1 million donation from Jewelers Mutual. The runner-up will receive $700,000 and $300,000 will go to the third-place winner.  Another bonus?  Voters will be entered for a chance to win weekly jewelry prizes from STACKED New York to receive a set of 3 stacking bands ($450 retail value)!

The Glorification Of “Busy”

June 7, 2016

You may have noticed I’ve been a little MIA from this little blog of mine.  For a long time, I justified my lack of posting with comments like “Oh, I’m just too busy right now” or “I don’t have enough time.”  BUT a few weeks ago I read Mindy Kaling’s new book Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me and she had this amazing quote that totally stuck with me.

“I do not think stress is a legitimate topic of conversation, in public anyway. No one ever wants to hear how stressed out anyone else is, because most of the time everyone is stressed out. Going on and on in detail about how stressed out I am isn’t conversation. It’ll never lead anywhere. No one is going to say, “Wow, Mindy, you really have it especially bad. I have heard some stories of stress, but this just takes the cake.” – Mindy Kaling

Okay… so real right?! 🙌🏼 But something about our culture lately seems to glorify busyness.  It’s almost like if you aren’t running around doing a million things or feeling insanely stressed, are you even doing anything? 😑 Don’t get me wrong, I’m all about working hard and putting in the hustle, but there’s no prize at the end of your life for working the longest hours or having the most activities on your calendar.

In my mind, it all comes down to prioritization.  Everyone has the same hours in the day, and we all choose how we want to spend them.  You may think that some things {like your job or obligations} aren’t a choice, but if you get up every morning and make it to work then you are making a choice not to skip work and get fired.  Which is great!  For me?  The past few months I’ve been prioritizing my friends, my relationship, traveling and my personal health over this tiny corner of the internet.  But here’s the good news – if you feel good about what you’re prioritizing then there’s absolutely NOTHING wrong with making those choices!  Even though I wasn’t making time for my blog, I was able to focus on other areas of my life that needed a bit more attention – and I’m okay with that!  Often when people get overwhelmed, it’s because they are prioritizing things that don’t fulfill them or enrich their life.

I’m excited to get back into the swing of blogging, but I am making a promise to myself not to feel guilty if I choose happy hour with my girlfriends or a yoga class over writing a blog post.  Of course, I absolutely love blogging and the creative outlet it provides me, but I’m giving myself permission to put myself first.  At the end of the day, all that matters are the memories you’ve made, the relationships you’ve built and the impact you’ve made on the lives of others. ❤️

Gym Bag Essentials

March 30, 2016

When it comes to working out, I’m all about keeping things as easy as possible before and after my work out.  I mean, if I’m getting my butt kicked at the gym I don’t want to mess around with forgetting items!  I try to avoid going straight from a workout to any social gatherings, but sometimes happy hour is calling my name!  On days when I need to run errands or go meet friends after working out, I like to keep a few key items in my gym bag to make the transition as easy as possible.  Here, I’m sharing my gym bag essentials that will make going from the gym to happy hour a breeze!

  • Sneakers – If you’re running errands, sneakers are the way to go!  If you can find a pair to transition from your workout, even better.  My workout of choice is yoga, so I don’t wear any shoes while I’m working out.  However, I recently picked up some new sneaks {this pair is similar} since they’re perfect for running errands and an adorable “athleisure” look.
  • Dove Dry Spray Antiperspirant – You guys know I’m a huge fan of Dove, so when they asked me to partner with them to try their new spray antiperspirant I of course said YES!  I’ve gotta say, I’m a huge fan of this product.  One of my biggest pet peeves is when a deodorant leaves white residue under the arms, or even worse… on your clothes!  The Dove Dry Spray Antiperspirant goes on clear and is instantly dry, which means you don’t need to waste any time while getting ready!
  • Dry Shampoo – I’m a firm believer in not washing your hair every day, but after a workout it’s important to refresh your hair to get rid of any sweat/dirt/etc.  I love keeping a mini dry shampoo in my gym bag so I can freshen up my hair after a workout, without washing it!
  • Water Bottle – This one may seem obvious, but having a great water bottle is important for before, during and after your workout!  Especially if you’re heading off to happy hour {or even just running errands} it’s essential to hydrate after a work out.
  • Face Wipes – I absolutely cannot workout with makeup on, so I keep face wipes in my gym bag to make sure I can remove any makeup before a workout.  They are also great if you’re working out somewhere without a shower or sink, since you’ll be able to clean your skin quickly and easily!
  • Towel – Especially since I am doing hot yoga most days, a towel is essential for me during my workouts.  If I’m heading somewhere after my sweat session, I like to keep an extra towel on hand to use for a shower, washing my face or even to just freshen up.

These are just a few of the items in my gym bag, but when it comes to essentials these are it!  What items do you keep in your gym bag?  Let me know in the comments below! :)
